Saurav Ganguly stable, under constant vigil

Saurav ganguly

BCCI President and former India Captain, Saurav Ganguly, has suffered a mild cardiac arrest on 2nd January 2021. He was working out in his personal gym when he felt pain in his chest. He immediately consulted his home physician and has been rushed to Woodlands Hospital, Kolkata.

It has been reported that he had 90% blockage in one of the arteries, which have been cleared with immediate insertion of cardiac stent. Two more stents are supposedly to be inserted in the coming days. The whole country along with high-esteemed politicians and persons from sports fraternity have been sending their warm wishes for the comeback man, whom we dearly call as our ‘Dada’.

Saurav Ganguly, being a sportsperson and a fitness freak, has no significant reason to suffer a heart attack at the age of 48. Maybe, that is the misconception that we are nurturing in our minds. World Cup-winning captain, Kapil Dev, has suffered a heart attack recently. The Sultan of Swing, Wasim Akram, is a regular recipient of insulin as a treatment of diabetes.

Cause of Concern

It has been reported that heart disease is hereditary in Ganguly family. Chandi Ganguly, Saurav’s father, died of massive cardiac arrest in 2013. Doctors are not ruling out any hereditary angle here. Saurav, unlike his contemporaries, has been running very busy after his retirement as he has taken administrative roles in Cricket Association of Bengal(CAB) and BCCI respectively.

Apart from the lucrative administrative career, Saurav also hosts a popular bengali TV show and acts a brand ambassador for many popular brands. If we monitor his recent activities, we see him organizing the IPL in Dubai amidst the pandemic, unveiling the statue of Arun Jaitley at Delhi and his rendezvous with Bengal Governor, which raised a lot of eyebrows about his supposed entry into politics.

This busy schedule may have something to do with his physical health as per the Health experts. Proper diet and sleep is necessary for a healthy workout session, which, in his case, may not have happened. Too much workload may have impacted his sleep regime as his stress level boosts up.

It has also been reported that he didn’t have his regular health check-ups. Regular health check-ups are very necessary as it alarms you about the impending hazards, so you can act accordingly.

Back in 2013, Abir Goswami, a known face in the entertainment industry, had died of cardiac arrest during his workout in a treadmill. He had a heart problem before and he did not inform the gym authorities at the time of joining. Unsupervised training can cause fatality if the person has a history of illness, which he may or may not be aware.

As per the latest reports, Saurav is doing fine and under constant vigil. We wish him a speedy recovery and pray he comes back stronger like always. Indian cricket is blessed to have a guardian like him. Get well soon, DADA.
